Three Hurt in Retirement Home 'Splosion

WHITING - A gas explosion seriously injured one person at an Ocean County retirement community Tuesday night.
State police said the victim of the explosion at the Keswick Pines Retirement Community was airlifted to Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia for treatment of burns. Two other people were less seriously injured. The identities of the injured were not immediately available.
The explosion occurred about 10:45 p.m. inside a residential building, said Sgt. Bill McDonnell, a New Jersey State Police spokesman.
Some 160 residents were evacuated to a nearby firehouse. They were to remain there until inspectors could certify that the building was safe, authorities said.
The explosion occurred in a second-floor apartment where an outside contractor was working on a furnace, Fleming said, and the damage was limited to that apartment.
