An explosion in Albuquerque’s Northeast Heights Monday morning created a plume of smoke visible by many early morning commuters.
The explosion occurred at a home in the 6200 block of Sedona NE, near Academy and Tramway. Albuquerque Fire Department Capt. Mike Paiz says the explosion occurred in the garage of a home and was strong enough to send the garage door 50 to 60 feet across the street.
Paiz said there were two people inside the home when the explosion occurred and they both escaped injury. Flames at one point were reported to be 20 to 30 feet high. Paiz said the explosion and resulting fire were limited to the garage and didn’t spread to the residence. The fire was completely contained by 8:00 am.
Paiz said that fire investigators were on the scene trying to determine what cause the explosion.
